UnionBank Supports Learning and Care for Students in Tacloban

By: Neil Patrick G. Nepomuceno

A simple act of service grew into a meaningful reminder of how compassion and community can brighten young learners’ days.

Led by UnionBank’s Senior Branch Ambassador for Tacloban, Deseree, a team of GBC volunteers visited the Old Kawayan Elementary School in Tacloban, Leyte to deliver much needed learning tools and share a warm meal with over 50 students.

Upon arrival, the principal and teachers welcomed the volunteers with sincere gratitude. The team immediately began unloading donations that include a brand-new TV, a multi-function printer, stand fans, educational toys for kindergarten pupils, as well as new tables, chairs, and puzzle mats to enhance the learning environment.

Each item was thoughtfully chosen to support the school’s needs and enrich the students’ daily classroom experience.

Beyond the donations, the volunteers also served a simple but hearty meal to all learners. The school quickly filled with lively chatter and laughter as the children enjoyed their food together. Watching the students share stories and smiles over a warm meal reinforced the idea that care can be expressed in many meaningful ways.

The experience affirmed the belief that every act of giving—whether a classroom tool or a comforting meal—creates a positive ripple in the lives of young learners.

As another impactful initiative under GoBeyond Communities (GBC), UnionBank’s flagship CSR program, this activity reflects the Bank’s continuous desire to uplift remote and underserved communities.
