UnionBank Volunteers Help Build Safer, Better Learning Spaces in General Santos City

On December 6, 2025, UnionBank volunteers from the General Santos Branch brought hope and inspiration to Mabuhay Elementary School through a meaningful GoBeyond Communities (GBC) initiative. From 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, the team worked hand in hand with school staff and learners to improve their learning environment and share valuable lessons on financial literacy and online safety.

UnionBank provided financial support and resources to purchase construction materials and services, ensuring the completion of a much-needed roof for the school stage. This improvement means outdoor performances of teachers and students will no longer be exposed to harsh sunlight or unexpected downpours during school programs and gatherings—a simple yet impactful change that will benefit the entire community.

Beyond infrastructure, the volunteers also distributed school supplies and shared educational materials, including PowerPoint presentations on “Staying Safe Online” and financial literacy – this strengthens the bank’s commitment to social sustainability by building more resilient and equitable societies through the future generations. UnionBankers guided the flow of activities to make the event smooth and engaging for everyone involved.

UnionBank Senior Branch Ambassador Ellen Mariano expressed her joy in seeing the project come to life:

“It was fulfilling to witness how UnionBank contributed to making their learning environment better. Inspiring them to be better in their studies.”

The day was filled with heartfelt interactions between volunteers, learners, and teachers, who shared stories about the challenges of not having a proper stage roof. Ellen emphasized the deeper meaning behind the initiative:

“This is our chance to demonstrate the Ubuntu Spirit of belonging to a community, and that simple acts may go a long way and make a difference in other people’s lives.”

The event concluded with a simple yet joyful salu-salo of bread, bihon, puto, and soft drinks—a moment of bonding that strengthened the connection between UnionBankers and the school community.

UnionBank continues to empower its employees to lead and participate in initiatives that go beyond banking. Through projects like this, the GoBeyond Communities program is a testament to the bank’s commitment to creating lasting impact by uplifting the lives of our beneficiaries.
