UnionBankers Support Local Fishermen with New Boat and Shore Cleanup

On June 8, 2024, UnionBank volunteers from BCM Batangas City and neighboring branches went to the lakeside town of Barangay Halang in Lipa City, Batangas, where they donated a brand new fishing boat and helped clean the shores of the lake through a mass cleanup drive led by UnionBankers and local Barangay volunteers.

The program started with a welcoming remark from the barangay officials and the president of the “Samahan ng mga Mangingisda sa Lawa ng Taal” followed by a quick introduction of the UnionBank volunteers.

UnionBank Relationship SSA, Joseph Calatrava, expressed his feelings regarding the successful event, saying, “It is very fulfilling to help our fishermen. In my final message, I assured everyone that UnionBank is more than willing to help uplift their community as a way of saying ‘thank you’ for their hard work and sacrifice to bring food to our tables.”

Members of the fishermen’s group were thankful for the boat donation since it is one of their main sources of income in the area. During the cleanup efforts, the beneficiaries attended a short seminar that focused on financial literacy, covering topics such as proper budgeting, saving tips, investments, and effective financial planning.

This activity equipped the attending parents, children, and fishermen with the necessary knowledge to manage their finances effectively.

June has been a fruitful month for UnionBank’s CSR Program, GoBeyond Communities. The bank will continue to encourage and support its employees’ desire to help those in need, wherever they may be.
