On April 26, 2025, a total of 20 UnionBank employee volunteers from the Payments and Emerging Technologies Operations participated in the employee-led coastal cleanup and solar lights installation at Barangay Luyahan in Lian, Batangas.
The initiative was led by UnionBank Investigations Officer, Charlaine, after hearing the news about the coastline and lack of light sources in the area. Compelled by the idea of helping the neighboring community, she proposed the idea of conducting a coastal cleanup and solar light installation in the area.
Charlaine expressed her gratitude for the bank’s support, stating, “By giving us support, resources and encouragement in creating a GBC proposal, UnionBank was able to help me and our team of volunteers to make the event successful.”
“We were able to make a difference particularly within the school vicinity. Our solar lights donation may not be grand, but how they responded and show appreciation on what they received makes us delighted.”

The Bank funded the project under its flagship CSR and sustainability project, GoBeyond Communities. The combined efforts of the volunteers brought joy and hope to the beneficiaries. The solar lights were placed strategically to enhance the residents’ safety, especially at night.
New solar lights were installed near the local High school to help them traverse what used to be pitch dark roads at night.
UnionBank’s GoBeyond Communities will continue to sponsor employee-led programs for remote communities and the underserved. All employees are encouraged to come up with their own GBC Projects that are focused on uplifting lives and the next generation.
