On June 18, 2024, UnionBank marked the launch of its Carpool Club with a vibrant Green Commuting Bazaar at the 14th floor of UBP Plaza. The Carpool Club is an employee-driven initiative promoting sustainable transport options, aimed at reducing daily commute stress and lowering carbon footprints.

The Green Commuting Bazaar featured a variety of vendors offering eco-friendly products, food, and beverages. Employees enjoyed pastries and coffee from We Knead, gelato made from pure carabao’s milk from Araro Gelato, and diverse flavors of egg tarts from Egg Tarts MNL. PIK-A-PIKEL offered pickled mangoes, while Kyla’s Taho provided Taho and Soymilk, even giving away free taho to early birds and social media supporters. Makiling sold fashionable clothing made from recycled materials, and Messy Bessy along with The Eco Shift showcased eco-friendly home essentials in sustainable packaging.

The event also included an informative talk titled “Road Safety and Laws, Rules, and Regulations,” led by Joey F. Yap, an LTO-NCR Training Facilitator and DOLE Practitioner. Yap shared valuable insights into road safety, emphasizing the importance of following traffic laws for everyone’s safety. He covered common road hazards, defensive driving techniques, and the latest updates on traffic regulations. The session was interactive, with employees actively participating in the Q&A segment, reflecting their keen interest in safer commuting practices.

UnionBank’s Green Commuting Bazaar and Carpool Club initiative align with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include promoting good health and well-being (SDG #3), affordable and clean energy (SDG #7), innovation in infrastructure (SDG #9), sustainable cities and communities (SDG #11), and climate action (SDG #13).

The event successfully blended education, sustainability, and community spirit, reinforcing UnionBank’s commitment to environmental responsibility and employee well-being. It highlighted how small steps, like carpooling and supporting sustainable products, can significantly impact the environment and community.
