Last August 19, 2023, 39 UnionBankers from the BCM Metro Central Region visited the Little Sisters of the Elderly for a GoBeyond Communities project. Located in San Juan City, it is a compassionate haven for the aged, and a facility dedicated to providing care and support to the elderly in Metro Manila.
The volunteers donated essential items such as canned goods (corned beef and sausages), laundry soap and detergent, packed meals, diapers, and alcohols. Understanding the importance of health, they also provided much-needed medicines and vitamins, ensuring the well-being of the elderly residents.
Beyond material contributions, the volunteers also went the extra mile to create a joyful atmosphere. Dance presentations were organized to entertain and engage the elderly, showcasing the power of music and movement in fostering a sense of community and joy. They also serenaded the residents, sharing the gift of music to uplift their spirits.
To further connect with the elderly on a personal level, the volunteers also immersed themselves through a guided tour inside the facility. This tour not only provided insight into the daily lives of the elderly but also fostered a sense of understanding and empathy among the volunteers.
As the heartwarming event wrapped up, the nearly 110 elderly individuals expressed their gratitude to the volunteers as they didn’t just hand out things – they brought smiles, laughter, and cherished memories to the elderly residents. The bond created that day showed how kindness can make a difference, leaving both the volunteers and the elderly feeling thankful for the shared moments of care and kindness that made the event unforgettable.
This serves as a testament to the power of collective kindness and the impact it can have on the lives of those who need it most.
